• A KDE application is created offscreen and never showed.
• Everytime swing needs to draw a widget :
• The equivalent widget is drawn to a QPixmap via the offscreen KDE application (The drawing is done by QStyle methods),
• The QPixmap is converted to a Java BufferedImage,
• Swing draws this image as the widget background.

• GTK-Qt Theme Engine Wich gaves me the techniques to do offscreen drawings,
• GNU Classpath Wich help me to understand the internals of Swing Pluggable Look And Feel and Basic Look And Feel.
• Qt and KDE java bindings by Richard DALE Wich i orignaly used to draw the widgets (not needed anymore).

• Made the modification to be able to run this LAF with GNU classpath
• add missing widgets,
• the Feel of "Look and Feel" (audio + shortcut(key combinaisons),
• Java 1.5 Pluggable Look And Feel API,
• Java 1.6 Pluggable Look And Feel API.

• Download the binary and the jar kdelaf.tgz (259Kb - 2006/04/28 19:28),
• extract them.

• Copy the binary(kdelafworker) somewhere in your PATH,
• run java -jar KdeLaf.jar,
• or put KdeLAF.jar in your CLASSPATH and execute an application with cmd line : java -Dswing.defaultlaf=org.freeasinspeech.kdelaf.KdeLAF [-jar ]APP

• Copy the binary(kdelafworker) somewhere in your PATH,
• Copy the jar(KdeLAF.jar) to JAVA_INSTALL_DIR/jre/lib/ext/,
• Edit the file JAVA_INSTALL_DIR/jre/lib/swing.properties
• Add or set the line "swing.installedlafs=motif,metal,...,kde"
• Add the line "swing.installedlaf.kde.name=KdeLAF"
• Add the line "swing.installedlaf.kde.class=org.freeasinspeech.kdelaf.KdeLAF"
• Add or set the line "swing.defaultlaf=org.freeasinspeech.kdelaf.KdeLAF"

• You need
• GCC
• The dev package of libqt3
• The dev package of kde
• Download the binary and the jar kdelaf.tgz (259Kb - 2006/04/28 19:28),
• Download the native source kdelafworker.tgz (514Kb - 2006/04/28 19:29),
• extract them.
• cd kdelafworker/
• ./configure --prefix=/usr(Will install kdelafworker on "/usr/bin/kdelafworker")
• make
• Change to root user make install(On some distribution you can do sudo make install)
• To uninstall : change to root user make uninstall(On some distribution you can do sudo make uninstall)
• Copy the jar(KdeLAF.jar) to JAVA_INSTALL_DIR/jre/lib/ext/,
• Edit the file JAVA_INSTALL_DIR/jre/lib/swing.properties
• Add or set the line "swing.installedlafs=motif,metal,...,kde"
• Add the line "swing.installedlaf.kde.name=KdeLAF"
• Add the line "swing.installedlaf.kde.class=org.freeasinspeech.kdelaf.KdeLAF"
• Optional, that's if you whant to have KdeLAF as your default LAF : add or set the line "swing.defaultlaf=org.freeasinspeech.kdelaf.KdeLAF"

• KdeLaf tries to detect bugs and crashes (when detected the laf is swithed to the crossplatform laf)
• If it crash you should see something like this (on the terminal):
• KdeLAF has crashed see "/tmp/KdeLAF17404.log" for more information.
• Send me this file,
• Tell me your distribution, your java version and your kde version (and tell me if it made the application crashed or just switch to a different laf)
